Senior Management Team

The Senior Management Team (the Executive Group) at SCRI comprises Professor Peter Gregory (Chief Executive and Institute Director), Professor David Hopkins (Director of Science Planning), Professor Howard Davies (Director of Science Coordination) and Dr Neil Hattersley (Director of Finance and Corporate Services and Company Secretary). The Executive Group meets informally to manage the day to day affairs of the institute.

Professor Peter Gregory

Photograph of Peter GregoryProfessor Gregory joined SCRI in April 2005 from the University of Reading where he was Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Enterprise having previously been in the same position for five years with responsibility for research. He has substantial management experience of scientific institutions including universities, international research programmes and research groups. Since joining SCRI he has re-shaped the research programmes and structure of the institute to deliver the science contracted and commissioned by customers towards commercial and policy-related ends.

Professor David Hopkins

Photograph of David HopkinsProfessor Hopkins joined SCRI in August 2006 from the University of Stirling, where he had been Head of the School of Biological and Environmental Sciences and Professor of Environmental Science. His expertise is in soil biology and biochemistry and he has experience in nutrient cycling and soil processes in a range of agro-ecosystems and natural ecosystems. He also retains a part-time position at the University of Stirling.

Professor Howard Davies

Photograph of Howard DaviesProfessor Davies joined SCRI in 1981, since then taking up various positions including Head of the Biochemistry and Cell Biology Unit, Head of the Physiology and Crop Production Department and Theme Co-ordinator 'Genes to Products'. He is currently Director of Science Co-ordination, responsible for ensuring delivery of one of the RERAD's four commissioned research programmes – 'Profitable and Sustainable Agriculture: Plants'. The programme involves collaborations between SCRI, SAC (the Scottish Agricultural College), the Macaulay Institute and Biomathematics and Statistics Scotland (BioSS).

Dr Neil Hattersley

Dr Hattersley joined SCRI in September 2001 having had management experience in a range of businesses in the private sector. He has overall responsibility for Finance, Human Resources, Communication and Information Services and the institute's estate.
