Food Safety
Food safety is an issue often taken for granted and normally only considered when something goes wrong. To ensure that our food is safe to eat an increasing body of research is ongoing covering the whole range from raw material production through to diet-human gene interactions.
Within PPFQ we are leading research focussed on the processes involved in the formation of the many components within our plant foods and what factors influence this. For example, the manner in which a crop is grown will impact upon raw material composition and this means that approaches such as high, low and zero input farming, genetic modification and organic cropping will all, by their very nature, impact directly on this to varying degrees.
To address these issues and others we have been successful in securing significant external funding to look at a range of topics impacting upon food safety.
