Response of root growth to soil water potential
Joint project with Plant-Soil Interactions Group
Root elongation is reduced as soils dry and as they strengthen. Soil water potential affects roots in several ways and the aim of this project is to quantify these responses. We shall investigate the longitudinal and radial root growth of Lupinus angustifolius and Zea mays for a period of five days when grown in vermiculite and soil wetted to defined water potentials.
