Snowy statistics at SCRI
Weather statistics released by SCRI at Invergowrie show that 25cm of snow fell at the site during the recent blizzards which also witnessed the fairly rare occurrence of thundersnow in the Dundee area.
The meteorological observers working at SCRI recorded 11 days of snowfall over the 13 days between 24 November and 6 December. This resulted in a cumulative snow depth of 25cm being recorded on 2 and 3 December.
The snow is also remaining firmly on the ground with only a slightly lower snow depth of 21cm being recorded on 8 December. Over the period the total precipitation was 60mm, with the greatest amount during the 24 hour period from 9am on 27 November, this saw 26.5mm.
Despite the adverse conditions SCRI staff battled through snowstorms to reach the meteorological site (pictured) and ensure recordings were made each day.
