New role for Professor Peter Gregory
SCRI's Director and Chief Executive, Professor Peter Gregory, has been elected as President of the International Society of Root Research. The Society was founded in 1982.

Professor Gregory said: "I am very pleased to have been elected to lead the Society and look forward to promoting the good and exciting science that its members undertake. Besides organising the next major conference, we shall be developing the ISRR website as a means of communication between members and forging closer links with other related societies."
Roots have always remained the least explored components of the plants. The root-soil interface is the important site where most of the interaction between the plant and its environment takes place. Plant roots serve a multitude of functions of importance for not only the plants themselves, but also for the ecosystem as a whole.
Professor Gregory is only the second President of the ISRR. The previous incumbent having served for 27 years! The Society met in Vienna earlier this month with about 280 people attending. Dundee is one of several cities being considered for the next major meeting of the Society in 2012.
